Coordinating Across PLMNS in Multi-SIM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18249812 titled 'Coordinating Across PLMNS in Multi-SIM

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method performed by a wireless device that operates in two networks, where the device is idle/inactive in the second network. The method includes determining a periodic pattern for performing idle/inactive mode procedures in the second network and transmitting this pattern to the first network. The device then monitors the occurrence of idle/inactive events in the second network and transmits this information to the first network. This allows the first network to adapt the pattern for the device to perform procedures in the second network or to account for the device's unavailability.

  • Method performed by a wireless device operating in two networks
  • Device is idle/inactive in the second network
  • Determines a periodic pattern for idle/inactive mode procedures in the second network
  • Transmits the determined pattern to the first network
  • Monitors the occurrence of idle/inactive events in the second network
  • Transmits information about the occurrence of these events to the first network
  • Allows the first network to adapt the pattern for the device's procedures in the second network
  • Enables the first network to account for the device's unavailability in the second network

Original Abstract Submitted

According to some embodiments, a method is performed by a wireless device operating in both a first network and a second network wherein the wireless device is in an idle/inactive state in the second network. The method comprises: determining () a periodic pattern for performing a set of idle/inactive mode procedures in the second network; transmitting () a first indication of the determined periodic pattern to the first network; monitoring () an occurrence of at least one idle/inactive event in the second network; and transmitting () a second indication of the occurrence of the at least one idle/inactive event to the first network, thus allowing the first network to adapt the pattern for the wireless device to perform procedures in the second network, or to allow a different unavailability of the wireless device for f{circumflex over ( )} ″ performing procedures in the second network.
