Method and Apparatus for Communication Management - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18031752 titled 'Method and Apparatus for Communication Management

Simplified Explanation

This patent application describes a method and apparatus for communication management in a cellular network system.

  • The method involves obtaining information about pairs of cells in the network, where each pair consists of a serving cell and an assistant cell.
  • The serving cell has a certain coverage range, and the assistant cell has a different coverage range that partially overlaps with the serving cell.
  • The method further includes transmitting a configuration to a network node responsible for the serving cell.
  • This configuration instructs the network node to determine if a terminal device is within the overlapped coverage range of the serving and assistant cells.
  • If the terminal device is within the overlapped range, the network node is instructed to use the serving cell to provide service to the terminal device.
  • The desired serving cell or beam is selected to serve the terminal device based on this configuration.

Overall, this patent application presents a method and apparatus for efficient communication management in a cellular network by utilizing overlapped coverage ranges of cells to optimize service provision to terminal devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide method and apparatus for communication management. A method performed by a communication management node may comprise: obtaining (S) arrangement information about at least one pair of cells in a communication system; wherein a pair of cells of the at least one pair of cells comprises a serving cell with a first coverage range, and an assistant cell with a second coverage range; wherein the first coverage range at least partially overlaps with the second coverage range; and transmitting (S) a configuration to a network node providing the serving cell; wherein the configuration indicates the network node to determine whether a terminal device is in an overlapped coverage range of the serving cell and the assistant cell, and indicates the net-sun work node to use the serving cell to serve the terminal device. The desired serving cell/beam may be used to serve the terminal device.
