Random Access in a Wireless Communication Network - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18026384 titled 'Random Access in a Wireless Communication Network

Simplified Explanation

- This patent application is for a wireless communication device that receives a random access configuration from a radio network node. - The random access configuration sets up the device with a set of random access preambles that are not associated with any specific transmission. - When the device sends a random access preamble from this set, the radio network node can respond with a random access response. - The response is transmitted on one or more downlink beams, which are estimated based on measurements of the device's uplink beam or signal.

Original Abstract Submitted

A wireless communication device () receives a random access configuration () from a radio network node () configured to transmit multiple SSBs (--N). The random access configuration () configures the wireless communication device () with a set () of one or more random access preambles. This set () of one or more random access preambles is not associated with any of the multiple SSBS (--N). Upon receiving a random access preamble from this set, the radio network node () may transmit a random access response as a response to the random access preamble. The radio network node () may do so by transmitting the random access response on one or more downlink beams that are estimated from measurement of an uplink beam or uplink signal from the wireless communication device ().
