Gaming Blanket Device

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20250120466 titled 'Gaming Blanket Device

Original Abstract Submitted

a gaming blanket device is disclosed, which is a blanket in conjunction with a hat designed to block out sunlight while trying to use an electronic device. the gaming blanket device comprises a blanket component that is configured to hang off the bill of a hat component to provide shade. the blanket component would be secured to the bill via hook and loop fasteners to prevent unwanted blanket movement, and to allow for easy user initiated adjusting. the blanket component is lightweight and keeps the user cool rather than providing warmth to prevent overheating. the hat bill makes it easy to work with the electronic device without the blanket component getting in the way of the screen, and thus does not interfere with playing games or watching videos. accordingly, the device will shade the user's face and their electronic device screen to provide glare-free indoor and outdoor device usage.

Example Usages

  • Mobile gaming at the beach: Allows a user to comfortably see their screen despite bright sunlight.
  • Outdoor movie watching: Provides shade for users watching content on tablets during picnics or festivals.
  • Remote work setups in parks or patios: Reduces eye strain from screen glare during video calls or document work.
  • Long commutes in bright environments: Ideal for train or bus riders who want to game or read without sun interference.

Potential Markets

  • Mobile gamers
  • Outdoor enthusiasts
  • Digital nomads and remote workers
  • Children with tablets outdoors
  • Visually sensitive users requiring low-glare environments

Prior Art

Several existing technologies aim to reduce screen glare or create shaded environments, including:

  • Privacy screen filters – Thin overlays that reduce glare and restrict viewing angles.
  • Tablet sunshades – Box-like devices attached to tablets or phones to block light.
  • Hooded garments – Garments with oversized hoods that may reduce light exposure but are not optimized for screen usage.

However, none combine headwear with a modular shading blanket specifically optimized for hands-free gaming or screen interaction.

Advantages Over Prior Art

  • Modular design allows user control over shading and airflow.
  • Head-mounted system avoids interference with hands or device ports.
  • Combines wearable comfort with screen-optimized shading.
