TEMPORAL AND FREQUENCY-DEPENDENT TIMING ERROR GROUPS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240183928 titled 'TEMPORAL AND FREQUENCY-DEPENDENT TIMING ERROR GROUPS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of this patent application describes a method for determining timing error groups in a communications network, specifically related to positioning related reference signals.

  • The method involves determining potential margins from a predetermined plurality of potential margins, each representing a potential maximum margin of timing error difference between two measurements based on positioning related reference signals.
  • An indication of the potential margin is transmitted to the network node, and a margin is determined from the potential margins to perform an action.
  • The method further includes determining a timing error group associated with the action based on the margin.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in:

  • Telecommunications networks
  • GPS systems
  • Autonomous vehicles

Problems Solved

  • Improving accuracy in timing error measurements
  • Enhancing network performance and reliability

Benefits

  • Increased precision in timing error determination
  • Optimization of network operations
  • Enhanced overall system efficiency

Potential Commercial Applications

What are the potential impacts of this technology on existing systems?

The potential impacts of this technology on existing systems could include improved accuracy in timing error measurements, leading to enhanced performance and reliability in communications networks and positioning systems. Additionally, the optimization of timing error group determination could result in more efficient network operations and overall system efficiency.

Original Abstract Submitted

methods and apparatus are provided for determining timing error groups. in one embodiment a method of operating an entity in a communications network is provided. the communications network includes a network node. the method comprising determining at least one potential margin from a predetermined plurality of potential margins. each potential margin of the plurality of potential margins being a potential maximum margin of timing error difference between two measurements based on positioning related reference signals or transmissions of positioning related reference signals. the method further comprising transmitting an indication of the at least one potential margin to the network node. the method includes determining a margin from the at least one potential margin and performing an action. the method further comprising determining a timing error group, teg, associated with the action based on the margin.
