a device, system, and computer program product for automatically switching between quality modes for an application based on signals from the application. the device includes an application renderer configured to render the application in a first quality mode. the application renderer being further configured to switch from rendering the application in a first quality mode to a second quality mode when a signal is detected from the application. the signal may be a rendering mode switch message provided by the application, detected from image frames of the application or detected from information received from the application (e.g., audio). the signal may indicate rendering settings of the second quality mode. the rendering settings may include, active shaders, texture resolution, level of geometry detail, mip map level, anisotropic filtering, up-sampling level, anti-aliasing, raytracing and global illumination.
