Inventor(s): Clemens Birklbauer of Vienna AT for snap inc., Georg Halmetschlager-Funek of Vienna AT for snap inc., Matthias Kalkgruber of Vienna AT for snap inc., Tiago Miguel Pereira Torres of Vienna AT for snap inc., Simon Schreiberhuber of Vienna AT for snap inc.

IPC Code(s): G01C25/00, G01C21/00, G01C21/16, G06T19/00

CPC Code(s): G01C25/00

Abstract: a method for recalibrating an augmented reality (ar) device includes generating and storing a ground truth map of a real-world environment when the ar device is operating with a high likelihood of having an accurate factory calibration. during operation of the ar device, new map data is generated for the real-world environment. the new map data is compared to the ground truth map to detect potential calibration errors. if calibration errors are detected, a recalibration procedure is executed by determining an optimal path through the real-world environment that allows for observing parameters requiring recalibration. visual cues are generated to guide a user of the ar device through the optimal path. as the user follows the visual cues, calibration parameters are iteratively adjusted to eliminate detected calibration errors. the recalibration procedure may be presented as an interactive game to improve user engagement, with rewards provided for accurately following guidance.

CPC Code(s): G06F3/04817

Abstract: systems and methods for generating and serving stylized map tiles for a social media platform's map-based graphical user interface. multiple earth imagery tiles corresponding to a geographical area are retrieved, each comprising a photographic image of a corresponding portion of the earth's surface. based on the earth imagery tiles, multiple stylized map tiles are generated. in response to receiving a request from a user device for display of a target area in the map-based gui, a set of stylized map tiles corresponding to the target area is retrieved and transmitted to the user device. the generation of stylized map tiles may include retrieving a target earth imagery tile together with neighboring tiles, generating an expanded earth imagery tile, stylizing the expanded tile, and cropping to produce the final stylized map tile. different neural networks may be used for stylizing tiles at different zoom levels.
