Abstract: a secondary battery includes a positive plate, a negative plate, a porous separator, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. in the secondary battery, lithium metal deposits on the negative plate during charging, and lithium metal dissolves in the non-aqueous electrolyte during discharge. the secondary battery includes: a spacer interposed between at least one of electrode plates of the negative plate and the positive plate and the separator to form a space between the electrode plate and the separator; and a low porosity portion that has a smaller porosity than the separator and that is fitted into the separator in an area where the separator and the spacer overlap when viewed from a laminating direction of the separator and the electrode plate.
