METHODS AND DEVICES FOR BEAM MAINTENANCE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240284520 titled 'METHODS AND DEVICES FOR BEAM MAINTENANCE
The patent application relates to methods and apparatus for beam maintenance in a radio access network using random access preamble transmission.
- Terminal device receives a resource configuration for contention-free random access from a network device.
- Resource configuration includes multiple CFRA resources associated with synchronization signals and channel state information reference signals.
- CFRA resources are used for timing advance acquiring in a target network device.
- Terminal device transmits CFRA physical random access channels to the target network device based on the resource configuration.
- Beam maintenance can be performed using the transmitted CFRA PRACH(s) before a cell switch command or random access response.
Potential Applications: - 5G networks - Mobile communication systems - Wireless communication technologies
Problems Solved: - Efficient beam maintenance in a radio access network - Timely acquisition of timing advance in target network devices

Original Abstract Submitted
embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for beam maintenance in a radio access network, in particular, through random access preamble transmission for beam maintenance. a terminal device receives, from a network device, a resource configuration for contention-free random access. the resource configuration indicates a plurality of cfra resources each associated with a respective synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel block index or channel state information reference signal index. the plurality of cfra resources are applicable for timing advance acquiring in a target network device. the terminal device transmits, to the target network device, one or more cfra physical random access channels based on the resource configuration. in this way, beam maintenance may be performed based on an ssb index or csi-rs index associated with one of the transmitted cfra prach(s) before a cell switch command or a random access response.
