APPARATUS, METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240284369 titled 'APPARATUS, METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM

The abstract describes a method, computer program, and apparatus for managing timing advance values in a wireless communication network.

  • Establishing a connection with a user equipment via a serving cell supported by a first access node.
  • Instructing the user equipment to obtain a timing advance value for a target cell supported by a second access node.
  • Receiving an indication from the second access node that the timing advance value is invalid or will soon be invalid.
  • Determining whether to instruct the user equipment to obtain a second timing advance value for the target cell based on the received indication.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be applied in cellular networks to optimize the timing of uplink transmissions. - It can improve the efficiency and reliability of communication between user equipment and access nodes.

Problems Solved: - Ensures that user equipment transmits data to the target cell at the correct timing. - Addresses potential issues with invalid timing advance values that can impact network performance.

Benefits: - Enhances the overall performance and reliability of wireless communication networks. - Optimizes the timing of uplink transmissions for improved network efficiency.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Optimized Timing Advance Management in Wireless Networks" This technology can be utilized by telecommunications companies to enhance the quality of service for their customers. It can also be integrated into network optimization solutions for improved network performance.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does this technology improve the efficiency of uplink transmissions in wireless networks? 2. What are the potential implications of using optimized timing advance management in cellular networks?

Original Abstract Submitted

there is provided a method, computer program, and apparatus for causing an apparatus for a first access node to perform: establishing a connection towards a user equipment via a serving cell supported by the first access node; instructing the user equipment to obtain a first timing advance value for a target cell supported by a second access node, wherein the first timing advance value indicates a timing for transmitting uplink transmissions to the target cell; receiving, from the second access node, an indication that the first timing advance value is or will soon be invalid; and determining whether to instruct the user equipment to obtain a second timing advance value for the target cell in dependence on the received indication, the second timing advance value being obtained later in time than the first timing advance value.
