APPARATUS, METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240284276 titled 'APPARATUS, METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method, computer program, and apparatus for managing timing advance values in a wireless communication network.

  • Establishing a connection with a user equipment via a serving cell supported by a first access node.
  • Instructing the user equipment to obtain a timing advance value for a target cell supported by a second access node.
  • Receiving an indication from the user equipment that the timing advance value is invalid.
  • Deciding whether to instruct the user equipment to obtain a new timing advance value based on the received indication.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Method for managing timing advance values in a wireless communication network.
  • Improves the efficiency of uplink transmissions in the network.
  • Dynamically adjusts timing advance values based on the validity of the current value.
  • Enhances the overall performance and reliability of the communication network.

This technology can potentially be applied in other industries that require precise timing for data transmission, such as IoT devices and industrial automation systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

there is provided a method, computer program, and apparatus for causing an apparatus for a first access node to perform: establishing a connection towards a user equipment via a serving cell supported by the first access node; instructing the user equipment to obtain a first timing advance value for a target cell supported by a second access node, wherein the first timing advance value indicates a timing for transmitting uplink transmissions to the target cell; receiving, from the user equipment, an indication that the first timing advance value is or will soon be invalid; and determining whether to instruct the user equipment to obtain a second timing advance value for the target cell in dependence on the received indication, the second timing advance value being obtained later in time than the first timing advance value.
