HOST DEVICE CONTROLLED LOW TEMPERATURE THERMAL THROTTLING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240176498 titled 'HOST DEVICE CONTROLLED LOW TEMPERATURE THERMAL THROTTLING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for low temperature thermal throttling in memory devices initiated by a host device. The memory device receives a command from the host device to initiate a thermal throttling operation when the temperature of the memory device falls below a certain threshold. This command includes moving dummy data from the host device to a specific location in the memory device to regulate its temperature.

  • Memory device receives low temperature thermal throttling command from host device
  • Command includes moving dummy data from host device to specific location in memory device
  • Thermal throttling operation is performed based on moving dummy data
  • Operation is completed by moving specified amount of data to regulate memory device temperature

Original Abstract Submitted

implementations described herein relate to host device initiated low temperature thermal throttling. a memory device may receive, from a host device, a low temperature thermal throttling command that indicates for the memory device to initiate a thermal throttling operation based on a temperature of the memory device not satisfying a temperature threshold. the low temperature thermal throttling command may indicate an amount of dummy data to be moved from the host device to a particular location of the memory device associated with the thermal throttling operation. the memory device may perform the thermal throttling operation based on moving the dummy data from the host device to the particular location of the memory device. the memory device may complete the thermal throttling operation based on moving the amount of data from the host device to the particular location of the memory device.
