a secondary battery including an electrode assembly, a gel polymer electrolyte, and a battery case accommodating the electrode assembly and the gel polymer electrolyte. the electrode assembly includes a plurality of electrodes and a plurality of separators, the plurality of electrodes are stacked in a vertical direction, and each of the plurality of separators is disposed between the stacked electrodes. the separator includes a porous substrate and a ceramic coating layer disposed on both sides of the porous substrate, and the ceramic coating layer contains inorganic particles and a binder, wherein the inorganic particles are included in an amount ranging from 92 wt % to less than 100 wt %, and the binder is included in an amount ranging from greater than 0 wt % to 8 wt %. the method of making the battery is also provided.
