the present disclosure relates to a clothing treatment apparatus, comprising: a cabinet; a tub provided inside the cabinet; a drum rotatably provided inside the tub and accommodating laundry therein; a detergent supplier coupled to the tub and supplying detergent to the tub by driving a detergent pump connected to a first detergent container and a second detergent container in which detergent is stored; and a controller that, when the detergent stored in the first detergent container or the second detergent container corresponds to a scheduled detergent change state in which the detergent is scheduled to be changed to a different type of detergent, drives the detergent pump to perform a residual detergent discharge process, corresponding to the scheduled detergent change state, of discharging residual detergent from the first detergent container or the second detergent container.
