according to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel having a display region configured to output an image; a light source configured to emit light toward one surface side of the display panel; and a light adjuster interposed between the display panel and the light source and provided to be able to change a transmission degree of light between the display panel and the light source. in the light adjuster, a first polarization layer, a first liquid crystal panel, a second polarization layer, a second liquid crystal panel, and a third polarization layer are stacked from the light source side toward the display panel side; and one of the first and second liquid crystal panels is provided as an e-mode liquid crystal panel, and the other of the first and second liquid crystal panels is provided as an o-mode liquid crystal panel.
