a discontinuous reception (drx) method performed by a terminal, for example, is provided. the method includes starting a drx on duration timer and monitoring a physical downlink control channel (pdcch) in a drx cycle. when the pdcch indicates that a new data transmission is detected in the drx cycle, a drx-inactivity timer is started and the pdcch is continuing to be monitored. the drx on duration timer is stopped when at least the drx-inactivity timer expires while the drx on duration timer has not yet expired.
