a beam indication method and an apparatus are provided. the method includes: a terminal device receives first configuration information from a network device, to configure m common beams of a same type, where m is an integer greater than 1. the terminal device receives first indication information from the network device, to activate n common beams, and group the n common beams into a first common beam group and a second common beam group, where n is an integer greater than 1 and less than or equal to m. further, the terminal device receives one or more pieces of first downlink control information from the network device, to indicate two common beams of a same type.
