DATA COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240188185 titled 'DATA COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the abstract involves sending a message to an access management function to report the location information of a terminal device in a multicast session. If the location information indicates that the terminal device is outside the service area of the multicast and broadcast service, data transmission to the terminal device is stopped.

  • Sending a message to an access management function to report the location information of a terminal device in a multicast session
  • Receiving the location information of the terminal device from the access management function
  • Stopping data transmission to the terminal device if it is located outside the service area of the multicast and broadcast service

Potential Applications

The technology described in the patent application could be applied in the field of mobile communication networks to efficiently manage data transmission to terminal devices based on their location information.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in preventing data transmission to terminal devices that are located outside the service area of the multicast and broadcast service, thereby optimizing network resources and improving overall network performance.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved network efficiency, reduced data transmission to devices outside the service area, and better management of multicast sessions in mobile communication networks.

Potential Commercial Applications

One potential commercial application of this technology could be in mobile network operators' systems to enhance the management of multicast and broadcast services for terminal devices.

Possible Prior Art

Prior art in this field may include patents or research papers related to location-based data transmission management in mobile communication networks.

What are the potential security implications of implementing this technology?

Implementing this technology could raise concerns about the privacy and security of location information being reported and used to determine data transmission to terminal devices.

How does this technology compare to existing methods of managing data transmission in multicast sessions?

This technology offers a more efficient and location-aware approach to managing data transmission in multicast sessions compared to traditional methods that do not consider the location of terminal devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

a method includes sending a first message to an access management function based on context information of a multicast session corresponding to a multicast and broadcast service (mbs). the first message is for triggering reporting of location information of a first terminal device. the first terminal device belongs to a multicast group. the method also includes receiving the location information of the first terminal device from the access management function. the method further includes in response to (1) the location information indicating a location of the first terminal device and determining, based on the location of the first terminal device, that the first terminal device is located outside a service area of the mbs, or (2) the location information indicating that the first terminal device is located outside the service area of the mbs, stopping sending data of the mbs to the first terminal device.
