a photoelectric conversion apparatus in which a plurality of pixels are arranged on a substrate made of a first semiconductor material is provided. each of the plurality of pixels includes: a first semiconductor portion provided on the substrate; a second semiconductor portion made of a second semiconductor material having a band gap smaller than a band gap of the first semiconductor material; a connection portion in contact with the first semiconductor portion and the second semiconductor portion and including at least one of the first semiconductor material and the second semiconductor material; and an electrode surrounding the connection portion. in orthogonal projection to a main surface of the substrate, the connection portion is smaller than the second semiconductor portion, and at least a part of the electrode is arranged between the first semiconductor portion and the second semiconductor portion.
