IMAGE READING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240236252 titled 'IMAGE READING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING SYSTEM

The image reading apparatus described in the patent application includes a platen for placing an original, a scanner unit that emits light to the original on the platen and reads the reflected light to capture an image, and at least one processor that controls the scanner unit to generate an image signal based on the scanned image.

  • The scanner unit is capable of reading multiple originals placed on the platen by adjusting the amount of light emitted based on the type of originals present.
  • The processor controls the scanner unit to emit different light amounts for different types of originals, ensuring accurate image capture.
  • This innovation allows for efficient scanning of multiple originals with varying characteristics on a single platen.

Potential Applications: - Document scanning in offices - Archiving historical documents - Digitizing artwork and photographs

Problems Solved: - Ensures accurate image capture from multiple originals on a single platen - Improves efficiency in scanning different types of documents

Benefits: - Saves time and effort in scanning multiple originals - Enhances image quality by adjusting light amounts based on original type

Commercial Applications: Title: Multi-Original Image Reading Apparatus for Efficient Document Scanning This technology can be used in offices, libraries, and archival centers for quick and accurate document scanning. It can also be integrated into scanning services for businesses and individuals looking to digitize their documents.

Questions about Multi-Original Image Reading Apparatus: 1. How does the scanner unit differentiate between different types of originals for adjusting light amounts? The scanner unit uses sensors to identify the type of originals placed on the platen and adjusts the light emission accordingly.

2. Can this technology be integrated into existing scanning devices? Yes, this innovation can be incorporated into existing scanning devices to enhance their capabilities for reading multiple originals.

Original Abstract Submitted

an image reading apparatus includes a platen on which an original is to be placed, a scanner unit configured to emit light to the original placed on the platen and receive light reflected from the original, to thereby read an image of the original, and at least one processor configured to control the scanner unit to generate an image signal representing the image based on a result of reading the image of the original by the scanner unit, wherein, in a case in which a plurality of originals are placed on the platen, the at least one processor is configured to control the scanner unit to emit the light with a first light amount in a case where the plurality of originals are originals having a first type, and emit the light with a second light amount.
