Abstract: example techniques and devices for coding media data are described. an example device for encoding media data includes one or more memories configured to store the media data and one or more processors implemented in circuitry and coupled to the one or more memories. the one or more processors are configured to determine a hyperprior variable of a neural video coder based on the media data. the one or more processors are configured to apply a discrete cosine transform (dct) to the hyperprior variable to generate dct coefficients and encode the dct coefficients.
