Abstract: a connected energy storage element powers an electrical subsystem of an elevator system. the connected energy storage element includes an energy storage element and a communication element, wherein the connected energy storage element is connected to an external electrical energy feed and to an electrical subsystem of the elevator system. the communication element receives information and/or instructions for controlling whether the electrical subsystem is to be powered by the external electrical energy feed or by the energy storage element or both, and/or for controlling the charging of the energy storage element by the external electrical energy feed. the connected energy storage element is arranged such that an elevator drive of the elevator system is not powerable by the energy storage element.
