Abstract: a filter element has a filter medium body surrounded by a frame with two engagement elements arranged at a side face of the frame and extending away from the filter medium body that engage in a locked state with correlated engagement element counterparts at a filter housing. a rigid element connects the engagement elements to the side face. the engagement elements disengage the correlated engagement element counterparts in a released state and have a first distance to each other in the released state and a second distance to each other in the locked state that differs from the first distance. the engagement elements are connected by an elastic element to the rigid element. the elastic element, when the engagement elements transition from the locked into the released state, generates a restoring force acting on the engagement element.
