SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AN ACOUSTIC COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AS AN OUT-OF-BAND FACTOR IN A MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION FRAMEWORK
Abstract: the present disclosure relates to systems and methods for performing out-of-band authentication in multi-factor authentication (mfa) frameworks utilizing acoustic communication channels. specifically, the invention employs a cross-platform acoustic transport protocol to convey authentication information between a device requiring authentication and a roaming authenticator device. acoustic communications utilize existing hardwareâspeakers and microphonesâon both devices and operate within an acoustic bandwidth from a few hundred hertz to low ultrasound frequencies, rendering the transmissions imperceptible to users. to enhance security, the system employs acoustic spread-spectrum technology, including acoustic discrete-sequence spread-spectrum techniques with programmable synchronization codes that change with each authentication. this method provides secure, seamless, and user-friendly authentication without interrupting user workflow. by leveraging acoustic signals as an out-of-band factor, the invention overcomes limitations of traditional mfa methods that rely on user participation or are susceptible to electromagnetic interference, thereby improving security and user experience across various technical environments.
