Abstract: a system for cooling an electric motor includes a stator pole configured to retain at least one of a coil or a magnet, wherein the stator pole includes a recess and a pole retainer configured to fit inside the recess in the stator pole and to attach the stator pole to a hub. the pole retainer includes a channel extending through the pole retainer from a proximal end of the pole retainer that is configured to be mounted on the hub to a distal end of the pole retainer, a proximal mount disposed at the proximal end of the pole retainer and configured to attach the pole retainer to the hub, and a distal mount disposed at the distal end of the pole retainer and configured to connect the channel to a fluid transfer duct.
