DEVICE, METHOD AND SYSTEM TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO A RESOURCE OF A PHYSICAL REGISTER FILE

Abstract: techniques and mechanisms for allocating resources of a physical register file (prf) each to correspond to a respective logical register. in an embodiment, a prf comprises multiple physical registers (or “entries”) which each comprise a respective two or more minimum allocable sub-portions. for a given one such entry, the minimum allocable sub-portions of the entry are available to be allocated either individually or in combination with each other. allocation of a given one or more sub-portions of a prf entry enables functionality of a corresponding logical register with said one or more sub-portions. at a given time, logical registers of different respective capacities are implemented with corresponding entry portions of the same prf. in another embodiment, a bitmap facilitates a search to identify an availability of one or more prf entry portions for allocation to correspond to a logical register.
