Abstract: a coaxial rotary-wing aircraft including a first rotor rotatable about a first axis in a first direction, a second rotor rotatable about the first axis in a second direction to provide lift, and a gearbox. the gearbox includes a first gear oriented to rotate about an axis, a second gear spaced from the first gear and oriented to rotate about the axis, and a shaft assembly extending between the first gear and the second gear. the shaft assembly includes a shaft, a lock mechanism, and a retaining extension. the shaft has a first end coupled with the first gear and a second end coupled with the second gear, the second end including at least one recess formed on an end face. the lock mechanism is removably coupled to the second end of the shaft.
