Abstract: the present invention relates to: a composition for preventing or treating a stroke and a food composition for preventing or alleviating a stroke, the compositions containing sobrerol; and the like. the present invention contains, as an active ingredient, sobrerol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to have a brain protection effect against ischemic brain tissue damage caused by middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion, and reduces the size of an infarction in the internal capsule, and thus can be effectively usable in the pharmaceutical and food fields for preventing, alleviating, or treating a stroke.
