Abstract: embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to systems and methods for plant breeding. more specifically, embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to apparatus, systems, and methods for tomato plant breeding. in an embodiment, a method includes producing tomatoes from tomato seeds or tomato seedlings in a growing system, wherein the tomato seeds or tomato seedlings are selected to produce at least four generations and harvests of the tomatoes within one calendar year, the growing system comprising a vertical growth column. in another embodiment, a method includes planting tomato seeds or tomato seedlings in growth modules of a vertical tower, the vertical tower being free of fencing and trellising, producing tomato plants and tomatoes from the tomato seeds or tomato seedlings, and harvesting the tomatoes from the tomato plants at a period of 90 days or less from planting the tomato seeds.
