Abstract: a light-emitting device, includes: a substrate including: a base including a main surface and a plurality of mesas on a side of the main surface; and a plurality of protrusions separately disposed on the main surface, wherein the plurality of protrusions and the base include different materials and each one of the plurality of protrusions is disposed on a respective one of the plurality of mesas; and a semiconductor stack on the main surface; wherein in a top view, the main surface includes a peripheral area not covered by the semiconductor stack; and wherein a size of one of the plurality of protrusions in the peripheral area is smaller than a size of one of the plurality of protrusions under the semiconductor stack.
