Abstract: loss of an imaging opportunity is to be prevented in a solid-state imaging element that captures a plurality of pieces of image data. the solid-state imaging element includes a pre-stage circuit, a sample-and-hold circuit, an amplifier circuit, and a timing control circuit. the pre-stage circuit generates a pixel signal. the sample-and-hold circuit holds the pixel signal over a predetermined holding period, and outputs the pixel signal a plurality of times within the holding period. the amplifier circuit amplifies the pixel signal with a gain designated by a predetermined control signal among a plurality of gains. the timing control circuit sequentially designates the plurality of gains with the control signal within the holding period.
