ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR SYSTEM

Abstract: an electrical connector system includes a receptacle connector having a receptacle housing with walls forming a receptacle that holds a receptacle contact assembly. the receptacle contact assembly includes signal and ground contacts. the receptacle signal contacts are arranged in pairs in receptacle signal rows. the receptacle ground contacts are arranged in receptacle ground rows offset from the receptacle signal rows. a plug connector is plugged into the receptacle and includes a plug housing holding a plug contact assembly. the plug housing has shield walls parallel to each other and shield spaces between the shield walls. the plug contact assembly includes plug signal contacts arranged in pairs located in the shield spaces in plug signal rows. the receptacle signal contacts are mated with the corresponding plug signal contacts. the receptacle ground contacts are mated with the corresponding shield walls.
