Abstract: there is provided an anode material for a lithium ion secondary battery, which includes silicon particles. the silicon particles have an average particle diameter of 0.1 �m to 10 �m and an oxygen content of 0.1 wt % or more and 8 wt % or less. in a case where a surface of the silicon particles is analyzed using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, an integrated intensity ratio obtained by dividing an integrated intensity of a siopeak by an integrated intensity of a si peak is 0.4 or more and 3.0 or less.
