SPLICE MODULE FOR A FIBER OPTIC NETWORK AND RELATED METHODS

Abstract: a splice module for a fiber optic network includes a base housing defining a cavity that receives first fibers and intermediate fibers in separate regions that minimize intersections between the fibers. the splice module further includes a cover attached to the base housing and moveable between an opened position, where the cavity is accessible, and a closed position, where the cavity is inaccessible. a splice tray is carried by the cover and includes a splice area that receives spliced connections between the first fibers and the intermediate fibers. with the cover in the opened position, the splice tray is moveable between an opened position, where the splice area is accessible, and a closed position, where the splice area is inaccessible. this arrangement protects the spliced connections from inadvertent damage. a method of connecting optical fibers using the splice module is also disclosed.
