From WikiPatents

POSITION DETECTION DEVICE

Abstract: a position detection device includes a substrate. a transmitter coil provided on the substrate generates a magnetic field by an alternating current. a target faces the substrate, moves in a movement direction and generates a magnetic field that cancels out the magnetic field generated by the transmitter coil. receiver coils are arranged in the movement direction on the substrate and receive the magnetic field generated by the transmitter coil. the substrate has a receiving area occupied by the receiver coils. the receiving area and the target satisfy inequality: (m−1)/4w1<w2<w3, where w1 is a width of the receiving area in the movement direction, w2 is a width of the target in the movement direction, m is an integer between 1 and 3, and w3 is a standard width that satisfies equation: w3=m/4w1.
