Abstract: an image sensor is provided. the image sensor includes a substrate; and a pixel separation structure in the substrate, the pixel separation structure separating pixels of the image sensor from each other. the pixels include first and second pixels spaced apart from each other along a first direction. the pixel separation structure includes: first silicon-containing patterns surrounding each of the first and second pixels when viewed in a plan view and being spaced apart from each other; and a second silicon-containing pattern extending between the first and second pixels and connecting the first silicon-containing patterns to each other. the second silicon-containing pattern includes side portions adjoining the first silicon-containing patterns, and a connecting portion spaced apart from the first silicon-containing patterns and connecting the side portions.
