METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPLEMENTING BEARER SPECIFIC CHANGES AS PART OF A CONNECTION RECONFIGURATION THAT IMPACTS THE SECURITY KEYS BEING USED

Abstract: a base station, which includes at least one processor and at least one memory coupled to the processor, is provided. the at least one processor is configured to cause the base station to transmit, to a user equipment (ue), a reconfiguration message that identifies a subset of radio bearers of a set of radio bearers supporting wireless communication, wherein the reconfiguration message identifies one or more bearer specific changes for the subset of radio bearers, wherein each radio bearer of the subset of radio bearers is associated with one or more corresponding security keys, and wherein the reconfiguration message identifies a counter including a value for deriving at least in part a security key for a cell group. the base station is further configured to apply the one or more bearer specific changes for the subset of radio bearers without resetting a connection with the ue.
