Abstract: a method and system for selecting an operating mode of an operating system of a data carrier are provided. the data carrier is based on a secure element and the operating system is hosted by a single chip of the data carrier, wherein the data carrier is comprised by an electronic device used for communication with at least one communication network, the method comprising: transmitting a trigger signal to the operating system of the data carrier via the electronic device; selection of an operating mode of the operating system corresponding to the trigger signal; operating the operating system in the selected operating mode.
