HYBRID LENS-BASED FIBER OPTIC PLUG AND RECEPTACLE CONNECTORS

Abstract: hybrid lens-based fiber optic plug and receptacle connectors are disclosed. the hybrid lens-based fiber optic plug and receptacle connectors are each respectively configured to connect with optical fibers for optical communication and electrical conductors for providing power and/or communication. the hybrid lens-based fiber optic plug and receptacle connectors each respectively comprise a lens-based ferrule body capable of supporting a dense array of optical channels along with a plurality of optional electrical contacts for optical and electrical communication if desired. in one embodiment, the array of optical channels may include an array of lenses that are suitable for use with optical fibers each having a multi-mode fiber stub. the multi-mode fiber stubs comprise a predetermined length configured as an odd multiple of a one-quarter wavelength pitch for a predetermined refractive index profile of the multi-mode fiber stubs.
