Abstract: an installation () for preparing a cable () includes a conductor surrounded by an insulation system () having at least one insulating layer () and at least one outer semiconducting layer (). the installation has a cooling device () for cooling a section of the cable () in the form of a cylindrical cooling box () containing dry ice. the electric cable () passes through the box () in order to be cooled below the glass transition temperature of the outer semiconducting layer () and then allow the outer semiconducting layer () to be machined.
