FAULT DETECTION

Abstract: there is provided a method of detecting a fault along a cable or transmission line. in the method, the following steps are performed: obtaining an echo response of the cable or transmission line using time domain reflectometry, tdr, identifying a plurality of reflections in the echo response, generating a representation of the plurality of reflections, normalising one of the representation or a threshold, and determining a fault condition based on the normalised representation. by doing this, the faults can be accurately determined in cables of different lengths.
