ELECTROPOLISHING PROCESS FOR COMPLEX AM OBJECTS

Abstract: a method for electropolishing complex additive manufacturing (am) objects is disclosed. the method includes coating a surface of an additively manufactured (am) structure with a first material. the method also includes creating a tool for polishing the am structure in situ by coating the surface with a second material on top of the first material. the method further includes securing a gap between the tool and the surface of the am structure that was coated with the first material, wherein the gap is based on a flow characteristic of the first material. the method finally includes removing the first material from the am structure. in this way, the finishing of complex internal passageways of topologically optimized am objects may be fully coated for all internal passages.
