Abstract: disclosed are transgenic plant expressing a fungal protoporphyrinogen oxidase (ppo) enzyme and methods for conferring herbicide tolerance (ht) to ppo-type inhibitor herbicides, and controlling weeds, by selectively protecting the transgenic crop expressing the fungal ppo enzyme.
