SILICON CARBIDE CERAMIC AND PRODUCTION METHOD THEREFOR

Abstract: disclosed herein is novel silicon carbide ceramics having excellent durability. the silicon carbide ceramics comprises a silicon carbide ceramic substrate and a coating layer coating a surface of the silicon carbide ceramic substrate, wherein (1) the coating layer contains a silicate that is a product of a eutectic reaction between silicon dioxide derived from the silicon carbide ceramic substrate, a metal oxide derived from the silicon carbide ceramic substrate, and a metal oxide derived from a coating layer precursor, and (2) a content of the silicate in the coating layer is 80 vol % or more.
