Abstract: the present invention relates to nutritional compositions comprising lutein for inhibiting mast cell degranulation, thereby preventing or treating symptoms or disorders associated with mast cell degranulation. preferably, the compositions comprise lutein and non-digestible carbohydrates, such as those selected from prebiotic oligosaccharides, human oligosaccharides and combinations thereof.
