Abstract: a surgical robotic system includes a laparoscopic access port which includes a cannula and a top portion having a diameter. the system also includes a surgical robotic arm including a port latch, the port latch including a movable arm for closing at least partially around the top portion of the access port. the system additionally includes a position sensor for detecting a position of the movable arm and a controller for determining a type of the access port based on the detected position of the movable arm.
