Original Abstract Submitted

The invention relates to an imaging accessory positioning system () and method for medical imaging. Haptic feedback () is used to assist a user () with positioning an imaging accessory () relative to a reference position (). A position sensor () measures the position () of the imaging accessory () and provides a position signal (). A processing unit () derives the position () of the imaging accessory () from the position signal (), computes a feedback signal () based on the deviation between the position () of the imaging accessory () and the reference position (), and provides the feedback signal () to a haptic feedback unit (). The haptic feedback unit () generates haptic feedback () to assist the user (). In one embodiment, the reference position () relative to a patient is automatically determined.
