An aerosol generating device includes a main body including a processor, and a cartridge detachably coupled to the main body, wherein the cartridge includes a reservoir storing an aerosol generating material, a heating structure configured to heat the aerosol generating material, and a wick configured to supply the aerosol generating material stored in the reservoir to the heating structure, and the processor compares a first temperature of the heating structure with a preset threshold, stops power supply to the heating structure based on the first temperature being greater than or equal to the preset threshold, compares a second temperature of the heating structure detected after the power supply is stopped with the preset threshold, and supplies power to the heating structure based on the second temperature being less than the preset threshold.
