Disclosed are personal care compositions, e.g., foaming facial cleanser, the contain a polyol and a surfactant system that comprises: an amount of an anionic surfactant, wherein the surfactant is an anionic derivative of proteins of plant origin or of silk proteins (e.g., sodium cocoyl apple amino acid surfactant); and an amount of a non-ionic surfactant selected from an alkyl glucoside, a lactylate having carbon chains between Cand C, and a combination of two or more thereof, as well as to methods of using these compositions.
