STENT INCLUDING ANTI-MIGRATION CAPABILITIES - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18675625 titled 'STENT INCLUDING ANTI-MIGRATION CAPABILITIES
Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a medical device designed to treat a body lumen. It consists of an expandable scaffold with a covering that contains granular particles to prevent migration in the body.
- The medical device includes an expandable scaffold with a covering containing granular particles.
- The scaffold can shift from a collapsed to an expanded state.
- The covering contacts the inner surface of the body lumen in the expanded state.
- Granular particles prevent the scaffold from migrating in the body lumen.
Potential Applications: 1. Treatment of blockages or narrowing in body lumens. 2. Stabilization of blood vessels or other body passages. 3. Support during healing processes in body lumens.
Problems Solved: 1. Prevents the migration of the medical device in the body lumen. 2. Provides structural support to the body lumen. 3. Facilitates the healing process in the affected area.
Benefits: 1. Improved treatment outcomes for patients. 2. Reduced risk of complications during procedures. 3. Enhanced stability and support in body lumens.
Commercial Applications: The technology could be used in medical devices for interventional procedures, such as stent placement or angioplasty, leading to potential advancements in the field of minimally invasive surgeries.
Questions about Medical Device for Treating a Body Lumen: 1. How do the granular particles prevent the migration of the expandable scaffold in the body lumen? 2. What are the potential long-term effects of using this medical device in body lumens?
Frequently Updated Research: Ongoing studies may focus on optimizing the composition of the granular particles for better performance and exploring new applications for the medical device in different medical specialties.
Original Abstract Submitted
An example medical device for treating a body lumen is disclosed. The medical device includes an expandable scaffold including a first end region, a second end region opposite the first end region and an outer surface. The medical device also includes a covering disposed along the outer surface of the expandable scaffold, the covering having an outer surface. The medical device further includes a plurality of granular particles disposed along the covering. Additionally, the expandable scaffold is configured to shift from a collapsed state to an expanded state, the covering is configured to contact an inner surface of the body lumen in the expanded state and the granular particles are designed to prevent migration of the expandable scaffold upon implantation in the body lumen.
